Yuri Ivanov, Counsel with the Employment Practice, mainly focuses on conducting and settling labour disputes. Yuri has resolved a multitude of labour conflicts (in and out of court), including cases involving appeals against the legality of dismissal, claims for payment of compensations and “Golden Parachutes”, distribution of powers between company management bodies and officers, recovery of regional coefficients and more. Yuri regularly heads up hiring and firing projects, provides advice on HR work, including negotiations with employees, training and testing personnel, performing redundancies and job cuts, outstaffing, and protection of confidential information and personal data.

Yuri has also taken a direct part in a series of successful due diligence projects in relation to different companies, has developed optimal staff engagement schemes, proposed effective staff restructuring plans, elaborated on delegation and distribution of liability among the companies’ officers.

Projects

Some of Yuri Ivanov’s recent projects:

  • Resolved labour disputes between a Leading Insurance Company and its top-manager. This involved developing a termination strategy, negotiating and agreeing the best dismissal option, including by reducing the Golden Parachute, and conducting the court cases. 
  • Acted for Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, Mars, The Royal Bank of Scotland, OAO Pervaya Gruzovaya Kompaniya, Arla Foods Artis, Teva, Royal Canin, OOO Odintsovo Confectionary Factory (Korkunov), Bunge CIS and Estee Lauder in judicial disputes with employees;
  • Acted for Danone, including in court, in a dispute with the leader of the primary trades union organisation;
  • Advised and acted for OOO Iron Mountain CIS on disclosure of confidential information by an employee and reimbursement of the company’s losses.
  • Advised and acted for Kimberly-Clark, TEVA, Royal Canin, OOO Odintsovo Confectionary Factory (Korkunov) and other clients regarding payment of regional salary coefficients. This also included handling court cases with employees claiming recovery of regional coefficient debt.
  • Participated in comprehensive company due diligences, including of a group of companies, analysing the consequences of a hostile takeover and assessing the potential labour risks.
  • Participated in an HR due diligence of a leading manufacturer of confectionary, foodstuffs and pet-food (Mars).

Yuri has also participated in developing optimal forms of presence and business for foreign companies in the Russian Federation (Guardian, NISSAN); advising on staff hiring (Mars, Danone, Nike and others); and staff training (Royal Canin, Mars).

Yuri Ivanov has written many articles and publications on labour law and court practice.
