Five years on from the split at Pepeliaev Goltsblat & Partners, the part of the firm that teamed up with Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) to form Goltsblat BLP is storming ahead. With 100 lawyers, Goltsblat BLP is the UK firm's second-biggest office, after London.
In the past financial year, the Russian team saw turnover grow by 21 per cent. The firm also made a number of hires and promotions during the year, with partners joining from Akin Gump and Baker & McKenzie and associates arriving from a wide variety of firms.
Goltsblat BLP is increasingly pitching for and working on projects that span the firm’s international presence, although it also retains a strong Russian-focused practice. Work last year included leading for Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow on the reconstruction of its northern terminal.
Secondments are becoming an increasingly common way for Goltsblat to develop its links with BLP’s other offices, as well as its clients. The firm's plans to continue to develop as a top-tier, full-service transactional player in Russia look likely to succeed.
