BLP boosts English law in Moscow with transfer of former finance chief
Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is relocating former finance head Simon Allan to its Moscow arm in response to an increasing demand for English law in the office.
Allan will relocate to Goltsblat BLP in January 2011 to join the banking and finance team and develop its international capabilities.
He specialises in advising governments and private companies on transport, defence and urban regeneration projects, and has been on BLP's board for the last 10 years.
The Russian office announced last month that fee income for the first half of the year was up by more than 60% on the equivalent six months last year.
Goltsblat BLP managing partner Andrey Goltsblat said: "This move is in line with our strategy in Russia to broaden the international capabilities we offer to the Russian market and to develop further the scope of these services."
Allan said: "The plan is to further strengthen our Russian-based English law capability and practice to complement our existing teams in Moscow.
"This will inevitably involve lateral hires and we will be looking for the right people over the coming months, so that we can replicate the success of our finance practice in London. We do not have any further relocations planned at this point."
Allan stepped down from his role as head of finance in September this year after more than a decade in the role.
BLP merged with half of Russian practice Pepeliaev Goltsblat & Partners to form Goltsblat BLP in January 2009.
