Alexander Erasov appointed Vice-Chairman of the Association of European Businesses Taxation Committee
Alexander Erasov, Counsel and Head of the Tax Dispute Resolution Group at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, formerly Goltsblat BLP in Russia, has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Taxation Committee at the Association of European Businesses.
Alexander has accumulated extensive experience of liaising and handling disputes with tax authorities, as well as advising and representing clients on various aspects of taxation and tax crime defence.
Alexander has long taken an active part in the AEB Taxation Committee’s work. In particular, he effectively chaired a white collar crime defence task force for tax crime investigations. In 2019, he conducted extensive work in connection with the Russian Supreme Court Plenum adopting a Resolution on Tax Crimes and cooperated with colleagues to elaborate the position of the business community and proposals for improving the business climate. Alexander also helped consolidate the business community in promoting this position and was directly involved in discussing the draft Resolution in the Russian Supreme Court.
Thanks to Alexander and his team’s active efforts, the proposals outlined in the AEB context have become the business community’s consolidated position, and were supported and submitted to the Russian Supreme Court by such associations as the AEB, Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, Russian-German Chamber of Foreign Trade (AHK), Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Opora Russia, Business Ombudsman Boris Titov and the Russian Ministry for Economic Development.
In 2019, the task force led by Alexander was the most active of the AEB Taxation Committee working groups.
Alexander is also an advocate and a member of the International Fiscal Association. He is in charge of the White Collar Crime Defence task force under the Russian-German Chamber of Foreign Trade and sits on the taxation committees of the American and Franco-Russian Chambers of Commerce. In addition, Alexander is a member of the Expert Council for Minimising Criminal Risks for Business under the auspices of the Russian Ministry for Economic Development and of expert councils on the tax and criminal legislation aspects of transforming the business climate.
Since 2017, the prestigious international publication International Tax Review has included Alexander in Tax Controversy Leaders as a leading professional in Russia in resolving tax disputes. The Legal 500 2020 recommends Alexander as a prominent figure in the field of taxation and tax crime defence, while the Best Lawyers 2021 Edition lists him among the best Russian criminal defence and tax lawyers.
