The Goltsblat BLP Tax Practicehas recently expanded substantially owing to a growing demand by the firm’s clients for tax consulting services, especially in relation to implementation of large-scale and complex projects. During 2009, the practice was already joined by 6 highly-qualified tax lawyers.
The combined Goltsblat BLP / Berwin Leighton Paisner tax practice now consists of over 60 British and Russian tax lawyers working at the Moscow and London offices and offers the full range of tax law services associated with ongoing business operations, financing, M&A transactions, real estate and funds operations and structuring. The team also has strong capabilities and extensive experience in representing clients’ interests on tax matters before various authorities.
Andrey Shpak will head the rapidly expanding Tax Practice of the Moscow office and will be responsible for its further strategic development and expansion of the range of tax services provided by the firm.
Andrey began his career in 1995 with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Over Andrey’s 15 years there, he became Director in M&A Tax Practice and one of Russia’s leading tax experts.
He specialises in advising Russian and foreign companies on a broad range of matters associated with tax support for ongoing business operations and investments, and assists clients through all phases of transactions, including assistance to Russian companies in preparation for attracting foreign investors. Andrey also has extensive experience in tax structuring of and support for private-equity-backed transactions and is one of the leading Russian experts on the tax aspects of sale and purchase agreements (SPA).
Andrey primarily focuses on the consumer goods, retail trade, manufacturing, automotive, telecommunications and the mass media sectors.

In addition, Andrey has led many successful projects aimed at structuring client’s advertising, promotion and distribution activities in Russia, which included adaptation of distribution agreements, structuring of distribution of point-of-sale materials (POSM) and of provision of incentives to retailers.
Andrey has also helped adapt numerous cross-border agreements on provision of services to Russian subdivisions of international corporations to the requirements of the Russian tax legislation, which included development of extensive supporting documentation required under Russian tax law and practice.
