Goltsblat BLP advised Oleg Misevra, President of the Sakhalinugol coal company, in a new JV for coal production and port infrastructure development in Russia’s Far East
Goltsblat BLP, the Russian practice of Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), acted for Oleg Misevra, President of Sakhalinugol, in a recent transaction involving setting up a joint venture called East Mining Company together with the ICT Group.
The joint venture will focus on development of deposits on the island of Sakhalin, , which has major reserves of thermal coal. There is steady demand for this type of coal for use in power plants in the Asia Pacific region, especially in Japan.
The Goltsblat BLP team was headed by Kyle Davis, a corporate partner who heads the Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Practice . A key deal-running role was played by Matvey Kaploukhiy, senior associate . The team also included partner Ian Ivory, as well as Dimitri Antipin, an English qualified corporate associate.
