The International Financial Law Review has released its 2013 ranking of top lawyers worldwide. IFLR rankings are among the most prestigious and reliable guides in the spheres  of Banking, Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Project Finance, and Restructuring & Insolvency around the world.

Goltsblat BLP lawyers are recommended as leading experts in Banking, Mergers & Acquisitions, Project Finance, Restructuring & Insolvency and have moved up on 1 tier in each category since last year.

Such positive results evidence that the firm's chosen strategy has been a success, with its clients highly appraising the opportunities offered by Goltsblat BLP, including international advice and support. The ranking is based on client feedback, as well as the level and complexity of the projects implemented over the last year.

IFLR 1000 2013 reports the following comments on Goltsblat BLP:

  • Banking

"Led by Simon Allan, the Goltsblat BLP team grew with a number of recent lateral hires including partners Andrei Baev from Allen & Overy in January 2012 and Oleg Khokhlov from Linklaters in June 2011. The key name at the firm is Ian Ivory.

One standout transaction for the firm had Ian Ivory leading a team including Laurence Rogers and Oleg Khokhlov to advise Turkish real estate company Kasa-Akfen Real Estate on a $150 million financing from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the construction and development of four international hotels in Russia."

  • Mergers & Acquisitions

"Goltsblat BLP joins the rankings following all round endorsement and competitors invariably noting that the firm is making a push. Indeed, in 2011 the office recruited eight lawyers from either rival firms or in-house counsel positions, including senior associates Vera Gorbacheva from Mannheimer Swartling and Anton Vashkevich from Pepeliaev Group.

Practice head Anton Sitnikov is well liked by competitors as "an easy chap to work with". "Very good, a very good team and very qualified," says client, adding that "they really deal with the clients' intentions accurately and we are absolutely happy with them and can recommend Anton [Sitnikov]. According to another client the firm offers "the best work and price balance we have found".

Andrey Goltsblat led a team to advise real estate developer Sistema Hals on its acquisition of a controlling stake in CiTer Invest for a development in the Moscow City International Business Centre and to act for water treatment company Nalco on the establishment of a joint venture for a distribution network.

Anton Sitnikov also led teams on headline deals for the firm, acting for Alfainsurance on setting up a joint-venture with a private investor in the medical insurance sector, in one of the first such projects in Russia, and Equifax on an increase of a stake in a Russian Credit Bureau."

  • Restructuring & Insolvency

"Goltsblat BLP has built considerable momentum in the market across all practice areas and this is also a pertinent development in restructuring and insolvency work. Corporate restructuring partner Anton Sitnikov and insolvency partner Elena Trusova were busy across the board and the firm more than merits its listing.

In 2012 the team also expanded with the recruitment of partner Oleg Arkhipov from Hannes Snellman.

Among its most important insolvency mandates, the firm, led by Elena Trusova and Andrey Goltsblat, was representing the interests of an alliance of three creditors comprising OJSC Sukhoi, OJSC Severstal and CJSC Medicine on the bankruptcy proceedings of International Industrial Bank and helping to supervise the work of the trustee.

Other notable cases had Trusova working with Volkswagen Group Rus on the insolvency proceedings against its former dealer AkMotors, and Estée Lauder in proceedings against Russian retailer Arbat Prestige.

On the restructuring side, the Anton Sitnikov led teams to advise clients including an airport operator, international beverage company producer and a glass manufacturer on corporate restructuring work and liquidation cases."
