“Russia-UK. Olympic Partnership” Conference held with the support of Goltsblat BLP
On 3 March 2009, Goltsblat BLP acted as the general partner of the “Russia-UK. Olympic Partnership” conference organised by the UK Trade and Investment Agency (UKTI) and The Moscow Times newspaper under the auspices of the British Embassy in Moscow.
The event was linked to an official mission of UK businessmen to Russia and was attended by more than 250 delegates from Russian and foreign companies, including representatives from the real sector of the economy: construction, engineering and infrastructure companies; investment companies, state corporations, the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation, the Federal Highways Agency and the Sochi-2014 Organising Committee.
The conference discussed Russia-UK cooperation in preparing for the Sochi-2014 Olympic Games, including regional infrastructure development, legal support for Olympic projects, advertising campaigns during the Olympic Games, European experience of developing infrastructure projects, PPPs, construction of Olympic facilities, etc. The key speakers at the conference included British Ambassador to the Russian Federation Anne Pringle, President of the Sochi-2014 Organising Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, Head of the Olympic Transport Department of the Russian Ministry of Transport Sergey Bystrov, Deputy Head of the Federal Highways Agency Sergey Polischuk, Director of the Bidding Department of GK Olympstroy Aleksey Bereznitsky and others.
Experts from Goltsblat BLP Evgeny Danilov (Head of Group, Corporate) and Maksim Popov (Head of Group, Commercial/ Industrial Real Estate and Construction) – provided a detailed analysis of various legal aspects of Olympic projects and answered numerous questions from Russian and British businessmen regarding the rules for investing in Sochi real estate, the reasons for special regulation of land and town-planning relations in connection with Sochi-2014, the categories of Olympic facilities and their financing, relations between investors, contractors, suppliers and state authorities and organisations, etc.
Simon Allan, Partner, representative of Goltsblat BLP, shared British experience of infrastructure projects applicable to the 2014 Olympic Games and commented on PPP specifics in the current economic environment.
